Jaysankar De, PhD
Lecturer and Undergraduate Advisor
Dr. Jaysankar (Jay) De is a dedicated academic advisor, educator, and microbiologist serving as the UF Online Microbiology Major Academic Advisor and Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Cell Science at the University of Florida. With over 15 years of experience in higher education, curriculum development, and international research, Dr. De brings a student-centered and globally informed approach to academic support and program development.
He earned his Ph.D. in Marine Science with a specialization in microbiology. His research interests span environmental microbiology, food safety, and bioremediation. At UF, Dr. De advises students in both online and residential programs, contributes to curriculum innovation, and supports strategic initiatives within CALS.
Dr. De has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to student success and academic excellence, receiving the UF Outstanding New Advisor of the Year and the IFAS Superior Accomplishment Award in 2025. He is committed to enhancing access to quality online education, streamlining academic processes, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
