Pre-Professional Information

Pre-Med, Dental, Vet, Health Professions

Dental Students

Students majoring in Microbiology and Cell Science who plan on entering a post baccalaureate program such as medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, podiatry, optometry, or chiropractic should include several additional courses into their schedule along with their college and major requirements.

UF provides pre-health advisors for students to see for advising in the health professions.  Contact the academic advising center at (352) 3921521 Ext. 204 to schedule an appointment with one the pre-health advisors. They will want you to review the information in the Health Professions Handbook before scheduling an appointment .  All first and second year students must have attended an "Introduction to Pre-Health" workshop before they can schedule an appointment with a pre-health advisor.

For additional information regarding  pre-health requirements refer to the Health Professions Handbook or contact Robert Kwong at rkwong@advising.ufl.edu.

Honors Combined BS/DMD Degree Program

College of Agricultural and Life Sciences
College of Dentistry

Qualified students may be admitted to the College of Dentistry when they first enter college through a cooperative program between the College of Dentistry and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

To be considered for dual acceptance, the student must have an overall unweighted high school grade point average of 3.8, SAT score of at least 1310, or ACT score of 29, file a formal application with the College of Dentistry and be approved by the Dentistry Admission committee following a formal interview.  This program helps highly motivated students complete a bachelor's degree and a D.M.D. in a shorter period of time.

The Microbiology and Cell Science specialization provides the science foundation necessary for dental school.  Students complete university, college, and  departmental requirements in three years and begin dental school courses in the fourth year.  The bachelor's degree is awarded at the completion of  the 120 credit hour requirement in the fourth year.  The curriculum consists of 16-17 credit hours per semester for six semesters to complete the university, college and microbiology department requirements.   It is an extremely fast paced and challenging schedule in which students are required to maintain a 3.75 overall UF grade point average and 3.5 math/science grade point average.

Final acceptance to the College of Dentistry is contingent upon progress in the curriculum, completion of the College of Dentistry  application process, and completion of the Dental Admission Test with a score of  16 or higher.

Below are two sample schedules for Microbiology and Cell Science Early-Admit Dental students.  The first sample schedule consists of 6 semesters with no summers included and consists of 15-18credit hours per semester.  The second sample schedule includes courses which could be taken in the summer sessions to lighten the fall and spring schedules.
