Combined Degree Program

Statement of Purpose

The B.S./M.S. Combined Degree Program in Microbiology and Cell Science is expected to provide highly motivated and capable students with an opportunity to obtain the training and perspective that will give them a competitive advantage as applicants for advanced research degrees in molecular biological sciences. 

Applicants must submit:

  • a statement of purpose in essay format (less than two pages in length, single spaced) describing their goals and specific objectives that justifies their selection for this program. 
  • Submission must  be done electronically (prior to submission of the final application packet)  via a word document to Dr.James Preston , Microbiology and Cell Science jpreston@ufl.edu.    He will review the document and provide feedback to the applicants.
  • Please include a paper copy of your Statement of Purpose to the Department contact, Dr. James Preston, after you have heard back from him.
