Combined Degree Program
Frequently Asked Questions About Combined Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program
Q: What is a Combined Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program?
A: The Combined Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program allows an approved student to complete 12 hours of graduate courseware while enrolled as an undergraduate. The approved 12 hours may satisfy degree requirements for both the bachelor's and master's degree.
Q: Why would a student want to participate in a combined bachelor's and master's degree program?
A: The combined bachelor's and master's degree programs allow students to explore graduate work before making a decision to complete a graduate degree. For students who continue in our graduate program, they will complete the core course work that is required for the doctoral degree.
Q: At what point in the undergraduate program should you apply to participate in the combined degree program?
A: Most students should apply in the spring semester of their junior year. However, students may apply as early as the 2nd semester of their sophomore year or as late as their senior year if they have taken the appropriate courses to be on track to complete the requirements for the program.
Q: At what point does a student enroll in graduate courses?
A: For approved students, graduate courses may be taken any time during the junior and/or senior year.
Q: What is required for approval to enroll in 12 hours of Graduate courseware to complete my undergraduate degree?
A: A minimum 3.2 UFGPA (some majors require a higher UFGPA) to enroll in 12 hours of graduate coursework to complete your undergraduate degree.
Q: What is required to have the 12 hours of graduate coursework also count towards my Master's degree?
A: To apply the 12 hours of graduate credit to both your undergraduate and to a graduate degree, you must be admitted to the Graduate School. Check with the graduate coordinator for admission requirements for a particular department.
Q: If the student does not continue in graduate school, does the graduate work still satisfy the undergraduate degree requirements?
A: Yes.
Q: How does enrolling in a combined bachelor's and master's degree program affect my financial aid?
A: Your Bright Futures and/or Florida Prepay will pay undergraduate tuition for graduate courses and the student will pay the remaining difference (graduate tuition – undergraduate tuition = what the undergraduate student will pay for a graduate course).
Q: Why would an undergraduate student want to pay additional tuition to enroll in graduate courses?
A: The student who continues in graduate school will have saved tuition on the 12 credits taken as an undergraduate because the cost of the graduate course was partially paid by undergraduate financial aide.
Q: How do I get enrolled in a combined bachelor's and master's degree program?
A: Contact your undergraduate advisor and complete the Combined Bachelors and Masters Degree Request form.
Q: What if a student has an interest in creating a combined bachelor's and master's degree program that does not currently exist, how does the student go about this?
A: Undergraduate students should contact the Graduate Coordinator in the graduate department in which they wish to complete a combined bachelor's and master's degree program.
